If you’re planning your singing goals for 2025, I thought I might offer some inspiration, with an overview of our most popular singing blog posts and tips from 2024.
This blog had the most views – perhaps because it’s such an inspiring story, showcasing the courage of three studio singers, who stepped out of their comfort zone to perform in public. Read how singers Aleks and Celeste made their solo performance debuts at our studio concert. Another singer, Anne, gave her first recital at a Sydney city church.
Jaw tension is such a common challenge for singers, I’ve written about it before. For many singers, relaxing the jaw is an ongoing commitment, especially if you habitually grind your teeth or clench your jaw. The exercises in this blog post can help free up your jaw if practised regularly.
This blog post is my favourite for 2024, because we show how goal-setting and commitment to incremental achievements can give you a ‘performer’s mindset’ – with the confidence to create your own singing opportunities, if that’s your goal. We profile studio singer Anne, who created her own solo recital event at a city church, performing French classical songs. Read about Anne’s journey in this inspiring blog post.
You are in a conversation with your audience, and closing your eyes shuts off one of your biggest means of communication.
If audiences distract you, try looking toward the back of the room at a person’s hairline.
Practise using about a 180-degree view as you sing your song. If your eyes, body and head become stuck on one sightline as you sing, you can look stiff and unconnected to the song and your audience. Learning to turn your head a little gives the impression you’re singing to everyone in the room, and helps relax you.
Write down a time you felt powerful and confident. Read it before your next performance, interview or audition.
This cultivates the skill of replacing negative mind chatter with positive cues.
I hope these highlighted blog posts and easy singing tips help inspire you to pursue your singing goals, and fine-tune your performance skills.
